For ten seasons, he played for the Brooklyn Grays (1887), Baltimore Orioles (1888-89, 1891), Philadelphia Athletics, Buffalo Bisons (1890), Louisville Colonels (1895-99) and Chicago Orphans (1900-01). In a game pitching for the Buffalo Bisons on September 15, 1890, Cunningham threw five wild pitches in one inning. A record that still stands to date, even though it was tied in 2000. He finished his career with a record of 142 wins, 167 lost, 4 shutouts, 2 saves, 718 strikeouts, 287 complete games and a 4.22 earned run average. In 1996, he was posthumously inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame.
