Born in Cleveland County, on December 14, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Henry Hattie Ashcraft, and Della Shelby Ashcraft.
She was a homemaker, a private sitter and nurse's aide at Trinity Village in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Mrs. Spakes was a member of Forrest Park Assembly of God Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas; She loved arts and crafts, sewing, and fishing.
Her husband James J. C. Spakes, who she married on August 27, 1935, preceded her in death and he died March 9, 1980, and also a son Charles W. Spakes, a brother and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters Phillis Works of White Hall and Juanita Curry of Parkdale, two sisters; Margie Floyd and Robbie Koonce, both of Pine Bluff, foru grandchildren, and a close friend Gene Schatz.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, June 4, 2001, at the chapel of Hale-South Funeral Home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, conducted by Tim Law and Marion Ballard.
Burial was in the Rowell Cemetery near Rison, by Hale-South Funeral Home.
