American Actor. Taylor, who took an early interest in acting while in high school and first studied drama at Ohio's Wilmington College before transferring to Florida A&M in Tallahassee, will best be remembered for his Emmy-nominated role as Anthony Bouvier on the CBS hit sitcom 'Designing Women'. Gaining experience at an Indianapolis radio station as a political correspondent and in repertory theater, he eventually became a member of both Chicago's Goodman Theatre and the Organic Theatre group. In 1978, he moved to Los Angeles and landed minor parts in a few horror films, 'Damien: Omen II' (1978), 'The Howling' (1981) and 'The Beast Within' (1982), before landing roles on popular television shows including 'Barney Miller', 'Lou Grant', 'Barnaby Jones', 'Hill Street Blues', 'Cagney and Lacey', 'M*A*S*H', 'The Golden Girls', and 'Buffalo Bill'. From 1986 through 1993, he appeared on 'Designing Women' as the assistant to Delta Burke, Annie Potts, Jean Smart and Dixie Carter, and in 1989, he received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He then went on to appear on the sitcom 'Dave's World' for the next four years. Among other films he appeared in were 'Inside Out' (1986), 'Mannequin' (1987), 'Class Act' (1992), 'Jacks or Better' (2000), 'Friends and Family' (2001) and 'Hyenas' (2011). He also hosted his own series on HGTV, 'The Urban Gardener with Meshach Taylor', and was a regular panelist on the 2000 revival of the television game show 'To Tell the Truth'. Taylor, who was married to actress Bianca Ferguson, died after a prolonged battle with cancer. (bio by: Louis du Mort)
