Charles "Mike" Schmidt Sr., 62, of Fern Creek, died Saturday, August 23, 2003.

He was an avid fisherman and a salesman for Eagle Paper Co. He was a retired chief and trustee of Fern Creek Fire Department, where he volunteered for 38 years. He was a member of Fern Creek Chamber of Commerce and International Association of Fire Chiefs. He was a former member of the board of directors of the Kentucky Restaurant Association and a former secretary of the Louisville Chapter of the Kentucky Restaurant Association.

He is survived by his wife, his 3 children, 2 brothers, a sister, and 4 grandchildren.

His funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 5505 Bardstown Rd., with entombment to follow in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from noon-8 p.m. Tuesday at family-owned Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bards-town Rd. Memorial gifts may be made to WHAS Crusade for Children.
