William Alonzo Jones was born on August 5, 1881 in Tennessee, the son of William Henry Jones (1847–1920) and Salina Clementine (Knupp) Jones (1847–1922).
He was married in 1905 to Catherine Lee Trotter (1886–1960), the daughter of William "Henry" Trotter (1863–1954) and Nancy Louvenia "Nannie" (Langhford) Trotter (1866–1887).
Employed by the US Postal Service as a letter carrier, William was 61 years old when he died on February 16, 1943 at Protestant Hospital in Nashville after an unsuccessful operation to remove a tumor on his pancreas. Burial was the next day in Spring Hill Cemetery.
