Eldest son of James Drane and his second wife, Elizabeth Smith Piles. Married Ann Smith on Dec. 23, 1778, in Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County, Maryland. Six children.

Their bodies were moved from Maryland and interred in Rock Creek Cemetery in 1841.
