U. S. Congressman. Born in Fayette County, Virginia, which is now Kentucky, he attended the common schools and was engaged in agricultural pursuits as an adult. He served as a member of the State House of Representatives from 1814 to1816. He served as major of the Seventy-seventh Regiment of state militia in 1816. Then he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Nineteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James Johnson; he was reelected as a Jacksonian to the Twentieth Congress and served from December 7, 1826, to March 3, 1829. He missed only 24 of 286 roll call votes, which is 8.4%; with the average of miss votes being about 16%, his was one of the best of this time period. Afterward, he resumed agricultural pursuits.
