U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1833 and commenced to practice law in Greensburg, Kentucky. He was elected prosecuting attorney of Green County, in 1833 and was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, in 1840. In 1861, he was elected as a Unionist to the Thirty-seventh and Thirty-eighth Congresses, and elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving until 1867. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 70.
