Comforted by the loving presence of his wife, Virginia, Edward Lawrence Stellwagen, 93, of Green Bay, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, fell asleep and awoke in the arms of the Lord, Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2014, at the assisted living facility of Kindred Hearts where he and his wife had been living since October of 2013.

Ed was born April 7, 1921, in Miesenheim, Germany, the son of Lawrence and Elisabeth (Bozem) Stellwagen. Following his graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Ed was discharged in 1945. On July 18, 1942, he married Virginia Eva Londo at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brussels.

He was employed at Christy Corp, Algoma Plywood (now Hardwoods), and retired from the City of Sturgeon Bay Street Dept.

Ed and Virginia enjoyed traveling after he retired. They also spent winters in Florida. He loved working on the yard, especially taking care of his lawn.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Green Bay; daughter, Mary (Kelly) Crouch of Green Bay; grandson, U.S.AF Major Lucas (friend, Shafina Bux) Crouch serving in Tokyo, Japan; sister-in-law, Corrine (Robert) Severin of Kewaunee; many nieces; and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Dennis.

His military service will be recognized with full military honors as he will be laid to rest together with Virginia at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery (King Veterans Cemetery) in King, WI.
