Survivors include a daughter, Cindy DeHart and husband Brian; two grandchildren, who were his greatest joys and best buddies, Jon Wheatfill and companion Rebecca Preston, and Emily Wheatfill; a brother, Kenneth Lawrence and wife Jeri; sisters, Barbara Ellinger, and Carol Rost and husband Bud; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Goebel (Jim Pierce); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins including the Wrins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Carol Lawrence; brothers, Leroy, Martin, and Russell Lawrence; a sister, Rose Mary Ellinger; and a brother-in-law Harry Wren.
Max was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and drink Pabst Blue Ribbon with his friends. He enjoyed everything about being outdoors with his family and friends.
According to his wishes, cremation has been scheduled. A Celebration of Max's Life will be Friday, July 25, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. 3rd St., West Terre Haute, with a farewell prayer at 1 p.m., with his niece, Angie Millar presiding. The family kindly suggest that in lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society, as Max was an avid animal lover and pet owner all of his life.
