Carolyn Jarrell Duggan

Carolyn was born in Sylvania, Georgia, on February 7, 1930, to Orrie Clayton Rhodes and Thomas William Rhodes, Sr. She passed away in Savannah, Georgia, in the early morning hours of July 30, 2014, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, T.W. Rhodes, Jr., her husband, Morel Jarrell, to whom she was married until his death in 1992, and her second husband, Roy H. Duggan, to whom she was married until his death in 2004.

Carolyn lived her entire life in Screven County until the death of her second husband. She was a member of the Sylvania High School graduating class of 1947 and was a member of First United Methodist of Sylvania until her death. In 2004, she moved to the Savannah area to be close to her daughter and her brother. For the past one and one half years, she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law on the Moon River on Burnside Island. She had always loved the water and truly enjoyed her time on Moon River, spending hours with her family and her granddogs, Emmy and Ali.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan, and son-in-law, Dr. Bill Degenhart of Savannah, her brother, Clayton Rhodes of Savannah, and her grandchildren, Jay Degenhart of Gainesville, Florida, Leanna Degenhart of Savannah and Blake Degenhart of Atlanta. She is also survived by nephews Robin Rhodes of Stafford, Virginia, James Rhodes of Brunswick and Willie Freeman of Fernandina Beach, Florida and by a large extended family.

The family would like to thank Alecia Evans of Newington and Joanne Mingle Rhodes of Sylvania for their help and loving kindness during Carolyn's illness. They would also like to extend a very special thanks for the services given to them by Hospice Savannah during Carolyn's final months and especially to Hospice Nurse Kathy Lewis, a true angel, who we appreciate more than she will ever know.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home in Sylvania, followed by a private graveside service at Screven County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Mike Benson and Rev. Kitty Newton officiating. Remembrances may be sent to Hospice Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
