Eugene E. "Shorty""Pap" Hahn, 82 or 47 Phillips Ave., Waynesboro died at 8:48 p.m. in Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health since June 2005. and critically ill for the past three weeks.

Born July 12, 1923 in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late George C. & Carrie B.(Ott)Hahn. He lived his early life on Edgemont Rd., Smithsburg.

He and his wife of more than 58 years, Dorothy J.(McIntire) Hahn, were married April 5, 1947, in Hagerstown. They moved to the Phillips Ave. residence in 1969.

Mr. Hahn attended school in Smithsburg.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theater.

He worked for D.L. Rhinehart Orchards of Smithsburg, Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing of Hagerstown and the Waynesboro Hospital maintenance department. He later worked in the shipping and receiving department of Teledyne Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro for more than 20 years before he retired in 1987. Following retirement he worked parttime at Ivy Hill Farms, Smithsburg.

Mr. Hahn was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.

He was also a member of the Keystone Reptile Club Inc. and IAM. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting, bowling and watching his grandchildren play baseball. He coached the Grove Funeral Home Little League Baseball team for a number of years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Kathy A. Valentine of Waynesboro; four sons, Larry D. Hahn of Greencastle, Dennis W. Hahn and Jeffrey L. Hahn, both of Waynesboro, and Gregory A. Hahn of Mont Alto; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Naomi Shifflet, Kathleen Minnich and Ilene Barkdoll, all of Smithsburg: and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Robert S. "Steve" Hahn, on Nov. 21, 2004; two grandsons, Gregory A. Hahn Jr. and Brian D. Hahn; one great-grandson, Hunter J. Hahn; seven sisters, Margaret Hahn, Beulah Hahn, Helen Hahn, Jeanette Hahn, Mildred Wilhide, Marie Thompson and Hilda Beam; and four brothers, Alton Hahn, Raymond Hahn, William "Bill" Hahn, Norvin "Pete" Hahn.
