Minnie Queen Smith, age 78, of the Painttown community, passed away Tuesday morning, June 29, 2004 after a period of declining health.

Minnie will be missed by her family and many friends.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee. Minnie was a basket maker and worked as a cook for Boundry Tree for several years.

She was the daughter of the late Jasper and Luzene Reed Queen and was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Allen Smith, a daughter, Mary Ann Queen, two sisters, Annie Queen Powell and Eva Queen Wolfe, three brothers, Blaine Queen, Jessie Queen and Tom Queen of Cherokee.

Minnie is survived by two sisters, Kina Littlejohn and Myrtle Bird, both of Cherokee, NC, brothers, Lewis and Henry Queen, both of Cherokee, NC, one daughter, Lucinda Queen Taylor, five sons, Allen Boyd Queen, Abraham Queen, Lawrence Queen, Wesley Queen and Kevin Brian Smith, nine adored grandchildren, Ginger, Felicia, Laura, Stanley, Rae, Abraham, Sharlotte, Joe and Kayla, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Cherokee United Methodist Church with the Rev. James "Bo" Parris and Rev. Steven Phillippi officiating.
Interment will be at the Queen Family Cemetery.
