"The ladles (horseback) riding gave very great satisfaction, and the four young ladies competing for the prizes, Misses Mary Sanford, Ellen Barber, Orlana and Achsah Sherman, exhibited proficiency and grace in all the exercises."

Sacramento Union 8 Jan 1873
In Ignacio Valley, Contra Costa County, December 31, Jerome Greer to Acha {sic} Sherman.

Achsah (Sherman) Greer was born to Joel Burnett Sherman and Eliza Jane Lusk, the last of their ten children. She came across the plains in wagons with her family in 1860 following the path that the Donner party took. She married Jerome Bonaparte Greer Jr., 1 Jan 1873 in CA. From 1916 to their retirement in 1935 the couple owned a prune orchard in San Martin, CA. In later years we have found the orchard gone, making way for housing. The couple celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in 1946, Jerome dying later that year. Achsah died at the home of her only daughter Florence who lived at 1712 Fremont Street in Santa Clara. The home is still in the hands of family.

Santa Clara Couple To Celebrate 72nd Wedding Anniversary In January
"Santa Clara Sept. 14 - Mr. and Mrs. Jerome B. Greer, 96 and 90 respectively, are looking forward to their 72nd wedding anniversary January 1, 1945. The Greers live with their daughter, Mrs. Florence M. Belway of 1712 Fremont Street.
Both the Greers crossed the country in covered wagons, Jerome in 1852 (taking the Oregon Trail) his wife Achsah, in 1860 (following the route of the Donner Party into California). They were married in California and lived in Oakland for many years before buying a San Martin prune ranch in 1916. They retired from active ranching in 1934.
Mrs. Greer has been an invalid since breaking her hip five years ago, but both the elderly people are lively and have good appetites according to Mrs. Belway, who says her parents could pass for a young couple in their sixties.
The Greers have outlived two of their five children already and now are competing with several grandchildren and great grandchildren."

Her full obit is in the San Jose Mercury, Tuesday, 5 Feb 1952.
