John C. Brown Dies At Home on Dry Fork At Age of 82

John C. Brown, a well-known Letcher County man died at his home on Dry Fork this week from what was thought to be a heart attack and infirmities of age. He was 82 years old. Mr. Brown had been a life-long resident of Letcher County and had lived most of this time in the vicinity of Dry Fork.

The deceased was quite a colorful character as he had buried five wives and divorced one and left one to mourn his passing. Mr. Brown's five deceased wives are all buried in the same graveyard and he will be buried in the cemetery near them. He married the first time when he was 16 years old and the last time he married he was 73. He was the father of 16 children and a great number of grandchildren and many other relatives. His brother, a pioneer school teacher Eddie Brown who lived to be 86, died about three months ago.

Mr. Brown was a good citizen, living a quiet peaceful life and was well respected throughout the county. He established the Crown post office and was postmaster at that place for 28 years. He resigned a few years ago due to ill health.
