Roman Catholic Cardinal. A native of Agugliano, Antonio Vico entered the Collegio Capranica in Rome, later furthering his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University, earning doctorates in philosophy, theology and utroque iure, both canon and civil laws. Ordained priest in September 1873 in Ancona, in 1877 he was named secretary to the apostolic nunciature in Spain, and three years later to the Constantinople delegation. Auditor of the nunciature in France between 1883 and 1887, of the one in Spain from 1887 until 1893 and of the Portugal nunciature from 1893 till 1897, Vico was named apostolic delegate and extraordinary legate to Colombia on November 24, 1897, receiving his episcopal consecration with the titular archbishopric see of Filippi at the Collegio Capranica on January 9, 1898. Named apostolic nuncio in Belgium on February 4, 1904 and successively nuncio in Spain, with faculties of legate a latere on October 21, 1907, Pope Pius X created him cardinal priest in the consistory of November 27, 1911, with the title of San Callisto. Camerlengo of the Sacred College of Cardinals between January 22, 1915 and December 4, 1916, he was named pro-prefect of the Sacred Congregation of Rites on February 11, 1915. Opting for the order of cardinal bishops and the suburbicarian see of Porto e Santa Rufina on December 6, 1915, the Cardinal became prefect of the named Congregation of Rites on July 8, 1918, an office which he held until his death, brought on by influenza over ten years later.
