Published in The Paducah Sun, Paducah, McCracken Co., Ky., 14 Jun 2008 - WICKLIFFE, Ky - William F. "Junior" Mayberry, 84, of Wickliffe passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Mr. Mayberry was born on March 25, 1924 in Ballard County to William F. and Etta Rollins Mayberry. He served as a Private First Class and a rifleman in the 422nd Infantry Regiment in the 106 Division during World War II. On December 19, 1944, he and his unit were taken prisoners of war by the Germans in Belgium. He was released five months later on April 2, 1945.

He retired as an iron worker and farmer. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local Union No 782 in Paducah and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include daughter, Kathie (Tommy) Watwood; grandson, Jeremy Watwood; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret "Peggy" Anderson Mayberry; and sisters, Georgetta Hopkins, Mary Hendricks and Mattie Morton.
