Woodrow Duane (Woody) Marriott, 91, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in Millcreek Township, Utah.

He was born June 27, 1914 in Marriott, Utah to Hyrum Willard and Ellen Morris Marriott.

Woody attended the public schools and graduated from Weber College in Ogden. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Britain, where he played on the mission's baseball team, the Rochdale Greys.

Woody married Judith Cannon in the Salt Lake Temple on July 26, 1938. They made their home in Washington, DC, where Woody pursued his four-decade career with the Marriott Corporation.

An active member of the Chevy Chase Ward, Woody took time to serve in many civic and community groups, including president of Boys Club and Rotary. He also helped many young people attend college and serve missions.

Woody loved horses, fishing, and hunting, and spent many weekends at the Marriott Farm in Hume, Virginia. He also enjoyed golf (he had sixteen holes-in-one), tennis, and raising and racing thoroughbred horses.

Woody is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Georgia Marriott; four sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include his wife, Judith Cannon Marriott; his four children, Nancy Jean Marriott Sonkens (Jerry), David Cannon Marriott (Neill), Susan Marriott Ickes, and Judith Ann Marriott Ballstaedt (Mark); thirty-six grandchildren; and forty-six great-grandchildren.

The family thanks Care Source Facility for their loving care of Woody.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holladay North Stake Center, 4395 South Albright Drive (2145 East), Holladay, Utah, where friends may call on Friday, July 15, 2005 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and prior to the services on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
