CHERRYVALE — Earnest Edward Seifert, 80, of rural Cherryvale went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:28 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. He had been in failing health.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1933, at Aline, Oklahoma, to George Edward and Pearl Modine (Phillips) Seifert. He grew up at Aline and attended country schools and Helena schools, graduating from Helena High School. The family moved to Kansas in 1951.

He married Aretha Duvall on Oct. 17, 1953, at the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Parsons. She survives of the home.

They lived in Parsons until 1973, when they moved to rural Cherryvale, where he farmed and ranched. He also worked for and was a member of the Sheet Metal Union No. 2 of Kansas City, Missouri, for many years before retiring.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons and helped build the church while he worked for the labor contractor Melvin Walker.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Douglas Seifert, M.D., and his wife, Leslie, of Quapaw, Oklahoma, and Terry Seifert of Cherryvale; his daughter, Cindy Hurst of Edna; five grandchildren, Terran Dean and husband, Brody, KayLeigh Bowers and husband, Nick, Coltyn Seifert, Casye Seifert and Jesse Hurst; three great-grandchildren, Oakley Dean, Jordan Bowers and Bridger Dean; his brother, Frank Seifert and his wife, Carol, of Cherryvale; his sister, Elaine Bleicher and husband, Ed, of Cherryvale; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Ryker Bowers; and a son-in-law, John Hurst.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Steve Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in the Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons.
