John was the son of Henry Kalkhof and Frances Scherzinger. On 03 Aug 1915 he married Hermenia "Minnie" Taphorn and they had two children, Norma and Stanley. He was a bartender who had worked for Godfrey's Bar and the Taphorn Cafe. John died of carcinoma of the stomach at St. Joseph Infirmary at the age of 73.
