♥ ♥ ~ My Aunt June ~ ♥ ♥

June was the youngest of four children, and was born at home at 178 Andover Street. She was born the day after Ruth Elder began her famous flight as the first woman aviator to attempt to fly across the Atlantic. My Dad was fascinated with this news story and asked his mother to name her Ruth, in honor of Ms. Elder, and that's how she got her middle name.

June's father died when she was 13 months old, so she, her mother, brother and sister moved in with her maternal grandparents. Because she dearly loved her mother's oldest sister, she lived with her Aunt Bird and Uncle Francis during the school year and spent her summers with her mother and siblings. She was a graduate of Hughesville High School, Class of 1946.

Before she married, she was employed as a waitress at the Crestmont Inn and Sweet Shoppe in Eagles Mere. She married Edwin M. Booth Jr. on November 23, 1946, in Shickshinny, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Charles Diehl. She and "Junior" raised three sons and two daughters. She and Junior owned and operated a gas station, grocery store and trucking company in Eagles Mere for many years.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall, Muncy, and served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother for many years.
