Major League Baseball Player. The right-handed-hitting outfielder had a fine rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1938 when he hit .301 with 23 homers and 111 runs batted in. The following year, on May 30, he drove in a club-record nine runs in a 14-8 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of a doubleheader. Rizzo belted homers off Clyde Shoun in the fifth and off Bob Bowman in the ninth. Still, he slumped to .261 with six homers and 55 RBIs that year. He was traded to Cincinnati on May 8, 1940 for outfielder Vince DiMaggio. The Reds, in turn, dealt him to the Philadelphia Phillies on June 15 for outfielder Morrie Arnovich. Playing for three teams, he batted .283 with 24 homers and 72 RBIs. He slumped the next two seasons and finished his career with Brooklyn in 1942. His five-year career totals were .270 with 61 homers.
