Loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather.

Born in Beaumont, Jefferson Co., Texas to Hugh Ashworth and Lida Brasher Ashworth, he was raised in Starks, Louisiana.

During WW II he was stationed at Camp Adair in Benton Co., Oregon. Later serving with the 104th overseas the division liberated Nordhausen the Nazi work/concentration camp. A film crew followed the 104th into Nordhausen and recorded the liberation. This same film crew followed the 104th to the Elbe where the Americans met the Russians.

While stationed at Camp Adair he met Shirley Anne McCrady and after serving in Europe and enduring the Battle of the Bulge he went to San Louis Obispo on leave and to meet up with Shirley, they married in Reno, Nevada.

Howard was a carpenter all his life working on such buildings as Gill Coliseum at Oregon State University (1949) and the Newport Hospital in the early '50's. He built two homes near Corvallis for the family, one on Arboredum Road and the other on Armstrong Way in Corvallis. He and Shirley had four children, Susan, Dennis, Carol Anne and Glen. After a long battle with cancer he died on July 11, 1990. We miss him still.
