Perry A. Myers, 91, of Carmichaels, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 1987, in Uniontown Hospital, after a long illness. Mr. Myers, a son of Lewis and Nettie Ammons Myers, was born August 7, 1895, in the house in Carmichaels in which he resided all his life. He never married. He helped organize the Carmichaels-Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company in 1922, when he became assistant chief, being elected chief in 1926 until 1948, when he declined re-election. He was a member of the first fire training school in Morgantown, W.Va., in 1930. He served for many years as Greene County Fire Marshall, prior to which he served as assistant marshall for 19 years. He was the county forest fire warden for 19 years. During World War II he headed county fire company participation in the civil defense program. He was very active in community affairs. Mr. Myers is credited with being responsible for the community's first centralized water system, was named water superintendent, and served as president from 1966 to 1972. Mr. Myers was involved in many businesses during his lifetime starting in 1912, when he was a tire salesman and auto repairman; he later became an electrical contractor, operated an appliance store, work for an electrical equipment company; operated the West Penn Power store; operated a chicken farm with 2,000 hens; and was a photographer. Mr. Myers served two terms as Carmichaels Borough Councilman; served on the King Coal Association since it's beginning; was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Carmichaels; the Elks Lodge in Waynesburg, and the Carmichaels Rotary Club. He was a member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church. He is survived by a niece, Mrs. Wally (Lucille) Fleissner of Tacoma, Wash. A brother, Lewis Myers, and a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Roseberry, are deceased.
