Poet. One of modern Greece's most widely translated poets, he was inspired by Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky. Since 1931, he was close to the K.K.E. (the Communist Party of Greece). During Greek civil war he was sentenced to spend four years in detention in various camps. Between 1967 and 1971, the military dictatorship put him in detention again.
