Audrey was a co-worker of mine for several years. She was a very loyal person, independent, kind, and had a marvelous sense of humor.

Once she showed me a picture that she carried in her wallet of her older brother who died on "D" Day, saying that her mother never got over losing him.

Audrey married at 19 to an older man, who was an electrician. Audrey was a housewife. One Sunday morning, her husband died in her arms of a sudden, massive heart attack. Oddly enough MY electrican husband also died of a sudden massive heart attack, but this was two years after Audrey's death so I was never able to tell her that we had yet another thing in common.

After her husband's death, she got a job driving a school bus, then moved to Columbus so that she could support herself. She was a very hard worker, diligent, and fiercely independent.

She and I used to walk together at noon and she would always notice good looking young guys. She had a warm laugh and kind ways.

After she retired, at approximately the age of 68, she met the love of her life, Joe, at a health spa. She refused to marry him, but fixed dinner for him, and every day at 5:00, he came over. He also took her out. She said he treated her like a queen.

By this time, Audrey had already fought breast cancer, and unfortunately we lost track of each other. Then one day her attorney (we had both worked for him before he went out into private practice) called to say that she was in the hospital, having survived ovarian cancer but currently being treated for colon cancer.

Audrey was in a hospital only a few blocks away, so I walked down at noon. We had a wonderful time, talking and laughing. She said when she beat this third cancer, she was going to buy a new car and drive down the east coast, and we both knew this probably would never happen.

When I think of a courageous woman, an independent woman, I think of Audrey.

Thanks to Nancy E for this information:

please navigate Audrey's page to Browns Chapel Cemetery-Clarksburg, Ohio. I found on Billiongraves.com web site. Instead of creating a new page for her, I found your page for Audrey. Thank you. Bless your heart. I am creating some pages for the family, since one of her brother's just passed. Just another volunteer.
