Major League Baseball Player. Born Joseph Louis Lucier, he made his initial mark on the baseball diamond as a pitcher during his years at Grafton High School in Massachusetts and caught the attention of a scout who signed him to a contract with the Boston Bees. He ended up with the Boston Red Sox and due to the shortage of players because of World War II, Lucier was promoted to the Major Leagues. He marked his debut on April 23, 1943 and recorded 3 wins in 16 games-pitched that season. He concluded his career with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945 after compiling a 3 win 5 loss record with a 3.81 lifetime ERA in 101 innings pitched. After retiring from baseball, he worked in the mill industry in his native Massachusetts. At the time of his death at the age of 96, he was the oldest living former Boston Red Sox player.
