SARAH SINGLETON CALVERY went to be with our Lord on Friday, April 25, 2014, quietly slipping away at her home surrounded by her family. She was 73. Sarah was born in Gallaway, TN, in 1941, the 1st of 8 children to G.P. and Lucy Singleton. The family moved to the Memphis area around 1953. Sarah graduated from Bartlett High School in June of 1959, and married her soul mate Buddy that same month. She was an active and devoted member of the Bartlett Hills Baptist Church (formerly Raleigh Baptist) since 1982. Prior to Bartlett Hills, she was a member of the Trafalgar Village Baptist Church and was active with the youth group there for many years. Sarah and Buddy supported the U.S.O. for over 20 years by bringing service men and women, who were unable to be with their own families, into their home during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays from the Millington Naval Base. She was a member of the Baptist Women's Auxiliary, The Bolton Civic Club, and the Arlington Garden Club. They delivered meals for the Memphis chapter of Meals on Wheels for many years as well as various other charitable works. Sarah retired in 2000 after over 35 years as a Tupperware Manager. She was a living witness for her loving Lord and Savior at every opportunity. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 55 years, M.H. "Buddy" Calvery, son, George Calvery of Warrenville, SC, daughter, Sandra Calvery King and her husband Jeff of Lonoke, AR, grandson, Tyler King of Lonoke, AR, granddaughter, Kristyn Calvery Wilcox and her husband Jacob of Little Rock, AR, and great-granddaughter, Maddison Wilcox. She is also survived by her siblings, Charles Singleton, Bobby Singleton (Mary), Lucy Faye Harvey (Richard), and Carolyn Murphy (Richard), all of Memphis, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, G.P. and Lucy Singleton, her brother, Sgt. Walter K. Singleton, and sister, Betty Jean Burrow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Marine Corps University Foundation, P.O.
