John was the son of Robert and Mary Wimsett. On 26 Apr 1915 he married Ida Heicken and they had five children: Virginia, Louise, Thelma, George and Helen. As a young man he worked as a conductor for the Louisville Railway Company. Later in life worked as a paperhanger and painter. John died of pulmonary tuberculosis at the age of 54.
