Mrs. Cleta M. (Ford) Markland, age 89, of Shelbyville, Indiana, formerly of East Enterprise, Indiana, entered this life on April 19, 1925, on Bethel Ridge in Switzerland County, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late, Dilver Eastman & Bessie Ann (Bennett) Ford. She was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana & was a 1943 graduate of Patriot High School. Cleta was united in marriage on October 7, 1944, in Vevay, Indiana, to the late, Wilbur N. Markland & to this union arrived a son, Terry to bless their home & make it complete. Cleta & Wilbur shared 51 years of marriage together until he passed away on March 15, 1995. Cleta helped her husband operate the Markland Garage in East Enterprise, Indiana, where she served as Bookkeeper, for nearly 20 years. Cleta & her late husband, Wilbur held the oldest creamery license in the state of Indiana, where they operated milk routes hauling milk to plants at Columbus, Osgood, Cincinnati, Lawrenceburg, Salem & Elnora. Cleta & Wilbur were very proud of their son when he received his degree in education from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. The values that Cleta instilled in Terry have been passed on to the many students that he has taught over his career in education. The family enjoyed taking a number of trips to Florida to visit relatives. Cleta enjoyed socializing with family & friends & especially enjoyed entertaining the East Enterprise Home Economics Club in East Enterprise, Indiana, where she was always a gracious host. Cleta resided most of her life in the Switzerland County & the East Enterprise Community, until her husband passed away. In 1996, Cleta moved to Shelbyville to be near her son, Terry. Cleta often made several trips back to the family farm in East Enterprise, Indiana, where she enjoyed visiting with her neighbors & lifelong friends. She was a Board Member & past President under Walter Rieman when he was Director of the Switzerland County Welfare Department, for several years. She attended the East Enterprise United Methodist Church in East Enterprise, Indiana, where she was active with the youth group. She was a wonderful homemaker & she will be remembered for her love of cooking, canning & gardening. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister & aunt. Everything possible was done to help Cleta, but medical science cannot always make us well. The past several years, Terry was faithful day after day either going to the hospital or nursing home to attend to her every need. Cleta quietly slipped away on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at 1:30 pm, with her devoted son & brother by her side at the Morristown Manor in Morristown, Indiana. Gone but not forgotten, in our hearts the memories dwell, and truly we will miss you, more than words can ever tell.
