Entertainer. He teamed up with Egbert Austin "Bert" Williams in 1893 and their partnership as a vaudeville comedy team is considered to be one of the most successful in American theatrical history. He was considered one of the best straightmen in vaudeville. They became known as Williams and Walker. They began their careers doing minstrel acts on the San Francisco's Barbary Coast. Their recordings are the earliest documented appearance by blacks on phonograph records. In 1897, they formed their own theatrical company which ran from 1902 to 1905. They produced, A Lucky Coon, Senegambian Carnival, The Policy Players, The Gold Bug, Sons of Ham, In Dahomey, and In Abyssinia. He produced 'In Dahomey,' which opened in 1903. It became the first full-length black musical comedy that played on Broadway in a New York theater. After their performances in "In Dahomey," they became the first team of black stars to become famous in America and internationally.
