RAWLINGS--Dillon “Fireball” James Darr, 20, of Rawlings, peacefully passed away to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, surrounded by his family after sustaining a tragic injury, while serving in the United States Air Force stationed at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.
Born August 4, 1994, in Cumberland, Dillon was the son of Robert Wayne “Bobby” Darr and Connie Jean (Hartman) Darr.
Dillon graduated from Fort Hill High School, Class of 2012.
Dillon was an Airman in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces member, the force protection and military police of the United States Air Force.
Prior to his enlistment in the United States Air Force, Dillon was employed by Wendy's, McDonald's, and Wanda's Clocks and Trophies. Surviving in addition to his parents are his grandparents, James W. Hartman and Jean M. (Iser) Hartman, Cresaptown; brother Christopher R. Toey, LaVale; brother Dustin W. Darr, Rawlings; and Andrea T. (Cohen) Toey, who he considered as a sister, Cumberland; Steven W. Hartman, uncle, Cresaptown, Sue Ellen (Hartman) Sowers, aunt, and husband Herman, Rawlings; Joseph E. Darr, uncle, Spotsylvania; Donald A. Darr, uncle, and wife Angelica, Arlington; Trina R. (Hilleary) DeMoss, aunt, and husband Larry, LaVale; his first and very special niece, Adelyn, Cumberland; his special cousin, Hannah, Rawlings; many special aunts and uncles, who he cherished; many special cousins; special family friends, Charles and Terry Miller, Robert “Bob” and Linda Lowery. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ida M. (Darr) Hilleary and husband Donald R. Hilleary; grandparents Wesley K. Hartman and wife, Iva C. Throughout his life, Dillon was an exceptional athlete. He was an accomplished member of the Fort Hill High School Wrestling team. He was selected as Team Captain and formed a very special bond with his coaches and teammates. He finished his wrestling career, placing on the podium at the Maryland State Wrestling Tournament. It has been stated by his former coach,
“He was one of the best to ever put on a Fort Hill High School wrestling singlet.” Win or lose, he always left it all out on the mat. He also put rivalries aside and assisted the Allegany High School Wrestling team as a coach, once he graduated from High School. He also was a dedicated member of the Fort Hill High School football team, where he became one of Coach Appel's “Ironmen.” Dillon also enjoyed playing basketball for the Calvary Baptist Church, Basketball Church League. Dillon competed in the West Virginia Toughman Contest finishing Runner-up his first year. In his second year of competing, he proved himself to be The “TOUGHEST” man in the Middleweight Division and was very proud of his jacket. “Fireball” Darr was chomping at the bit to defend his title in 2015.
Dillon was baptized on November 6, 2011 and became a member of Calvary Baptist Church, in Cresaptown. Dillon was saved one night after attending Youth Group at Calvary Baptist Church. He was the sole reason why his entire family began attending church together. His relationship with the Lord was very strong.
While attending Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, he was Chapel Guide, and helped lead many others to the word of God. Even though he was thousands of miles away, he continued to seek guidance and direction from his pastor, Bruce McBride, who he respected highly.
He was a member of the Maryland State Police Explorer Post 52, where he excelled. He attained the rank of Lieutenant, becoming the Commander of the Post, which he held until he reported to the United States Air Force.
While Dillon was growing up, he was a member of the Mountainside Young Marines Detachment. He aspired to become a Maryland State Trooper, like his brother.
Dillon had a bright and contagious smile. He never met a stranger. He had a heart of gold and was completely selfless. He had many friends, who he cherished deeply. He was also very family-oriented. Words can't describe the kind of person he was. Complaining was never in his vocabulary. He looked at the bright side of everything. Dillon made life exciting for everyone around him. Though Dillon was only with us for twenty years, he made an impact on everyone that he came across. Dillon's favorite Bible verse was Romans 6:23 “But the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Family and friends will be received at Calvary Baptist Church, 14513 McMullen Hwy SW, Cumberland, MD 21502, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, and Thursday, November 20, 2014, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.
