Robert H. Anderson was born in 1861 in the State of Georgia, the son of Confederate Brigadier General Robert Houston Anderson.

On October 30th, 1884, he recieved an appointment as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry with the 9th United States Infantry Regiment, accepting the appointment on the 31st. He served with the Regiment and was promoted to First Lieutenant of Infantry on September 28th, 1889, and then to Captain of Company A of the 9th Infantry Regiment on April 26th, 1898.

When his regiment went to the Philippines in 1899 Captain Anderson followed at the head of Company A, and for a time commanded the Third Battalion of the 9th Regiment in that country. After fighting in China during the Boxer Rebellion with the Regiment he returned to the Philippines, and it was there that he died at the First Reserve Hospital in Manila on November 7th, 1901.

"Washington, Nov 8 -- A cablegram received at the war department from General Chaffee, at Manilla, announces the death from pneumonia of Captain Robert H. Anderson of the Ninth Infantry. Captain Anderson was appointed to the army in 1884 from civil life, being credited to Georgia.
