Victoria -- Leo R. Billinger, 87, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at St. John Rest Home where he been a resident since 1999.

He was born March 27, 1915, in Victoria to Joseph J. and Anna (Hammerschmidt) Billinger.

He married Rita Staab on Aug. 27, 1940, in Catherine.

He worked for Cities Service Oil Company Russell office for 34 years, retiring in 1977. He worked for Quint's Dairy, Bunker Hill, for two years and attended the Minnesota CCC Camp for four years. He served on the Victoria City Council and was a part-time deputy for the city of Victoria. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Third Degree and St. Fidelis Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include wife, Hays; five sons, Vernon, Macomb, Mich., and Earl, Rich, Wayne and Bill, all of Hays; two daughters, Marlene Brown, Attica, Mich., and Mary Pfeifauf, Capac, Mich.; a brother, Bernard, Wilson, a sister, Rosie Suppes, Victoria; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Edmond, Jerome, Daniel, Adolph, Gilbert, Aloysius, Virgil and Richard, and two sisters, Helen Windholz and Flora Fellers.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, with Father David Gottschalk officiating; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., a vigil service is at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. all Friday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd. The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, all at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Northwest Kansas Alzheimer's Association, the church or Masses.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Billinger, Victoria, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today, Aug. 27, 2000.

Their children are Earl, Rich, Wayne, and Bill, all of Hays, Vernon, Sterling Heights, Mich., Marlene Brown, Attica, Mich., and Mary Pfeifauf, Capac, Mich. They have 22
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
