Robert A. Billinger, 81, Hays, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1926, in Hays to Michael and Mary (Goetz) Billinger. He was a graduate of St. Joseph's Military Academy, Hays.

He married Margaret Stecklein on Sept. 8, 1952, in Hays.

He was employed by Safeway Stores for 38 years and worked for Hilts for six years. He was a U.S. veteran, serving during World War II in Germany. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Hays.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Brenda Roth and husband, Douglas, Wichita; a brother-in-law, Wilbert Pfeifer; three sister-in-laws, Chris Billinger, Viola Billinger and Shirley Pfeifer, all of Hays; and a grandson, Steven Roth, South Bend, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Molly Rupp Billinger; seven brothers, Wendelin "Bill", Peter, Adam, Bernard, Mike, Al and Joe; and four sisters, Margaret Beilman, Catherine Walters, Rosemary Karlin and Lee Ann Pfeifer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, with graveside military honors by Hays VFW. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. A Perpetual Eucharistic Adorers rosary will be at 4 p.m. Friday, a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by a vigil at 7 p.m., all at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School or Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine.
