SHREWSBURY - John J. Hogan, 77, of 20 Cornerwood Drive, Harwich, formerly of Shrewsbury and Worcester, died Wednesday night in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, after he suffered an aneurism in Harwich.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Catherine (Power) Hogan; a son, Matthew J. Hogan of Shrewsbury; five daughters, Frances M. Hogan of Boston, Margaret M. Hogan of Brewster, Elizabeth M. Hogan of Winterport, Maine, Paula M. Hogan of London and Mary Catherine Hogan of Issaquah, Wash.; two brothers, Francis E. Hogan of South Freeport, Maine, and Arthur H. Hogan of Westerly, R.I.; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of John Henry and Nadie (Bouvier) Hogan, and lived in the city most of his life before moving to Shrewsbury 10 years ago. He moved to Harwich last month. He graduated from the former Commerce High School in 1933 and attended Northeastern University and New England School of Accounting.

Mr. Hogan was an Army veteran of World War II, leading a machine-gun platoon in Europe, and received a Bronze Star. He later served in the 376th Army Reserve Infantry Regiment for 23 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

In 1953, Mr. Hogan founded Paper Trading Corp. in Worcester, later Industrial Packaging Supply Inc. He was treasurer there until 1958, then became president. In 1982, he became chairman of the board. The same year, he founded Clearmont Corp. He was president of Clearmont until 1988, then chairman of the board. He also was chairman of the board of Professional Packaging Systems Inc. in Bay Shore, N.Y., and Industrial Packaging Supply/Mid-Atlantic Corp. in Cranbury, N.J., both affiliates of the Industrial Packaging Supply Inc.

Mr. Hogan was a member of St. Mary's Church. He was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Worcester and once served on its Parish Council. He was a senior member of the Rotary Club of Worcester and a former member of the Worcester Economic Club. He served in the Small Business Administration's Service Corps of Retired Executives in Worcester.

The funeral will be held Monday from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
