Margaret E. Nemec, 96, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Kent Ridge on Golden Pond. Margaret was born on November 10, 1917 in Wall, Pennsylvania to the late Fuhrman and Alma Minick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis F. Nemec; her sisters, Lillian Minick, Mary Jane Phillips, Alma Reeder, and Sarah Minick; and her brother, John W. Minick, a World War II Hero and Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient.

Margaret was a graduate of Ohio Northern University where she met her husband. Upon graduation, the pair returned to western Pennsylvania to begin their careers as educators. Margaret taught English and Louis coached football and taught. Margaret retired from Monroeville Junior High School after 30 years in the profession. Margaret and Louis loved their students and players and spent countless hours mentoring and tutoring young people. She maintained many of these relationships well into her 90s.

Margaret had great pride in her two surviving sons, John (Mary) Nemec of Kent, OH and James (Ann) Nemec of Kittanning, PA. At the time of her death she was also survived by seven grandchildren, Mary Margaret (David) Rottinghaus, Jaymee (Keith) Zolkowski, Allison (Ryan) Hawk, Kate (Steve) Bielak, Kathryn C. Nemec, Louis (Lindsay) Nemec and James (Lindsay) Nemec, 22 great grandchildren; nieces, Louise Hatala and Sis Croyle; cousin, Lillian Seelhorst; nephews, Tommy Reeder and Walter Reeder; and special family friends, Jack and Ann Gargan, Pat Lydon, and Peg Rossi.

Margaret had a love of the written word in particular the principles of grammar. She spent many hours reading books, completing crossword puzzles and writing letters to family and friends. Over the years, Margaret found great joy spending time with her grandchildren. She was especially proud of her two grandsons who are Majors in the United States Army and have served multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Margaret was a lifelong member of The Good Shepard Lutheran Church.

The Nemec Family would like to thank the staff at Kent Ridge on Golden Pond and Harbor Light Hospice for their wonderful care of Margaret in the last two years of her life.
