The Rt. Hon. Viscount of Ovenden Maurice Victor Macmillan, was a British Conservative Party politician and Member of Parliament. He is the son of former British Prime Minister (1957 to 1963) the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Stockton Maurice Harold Macmillan, 1st Earl of Stockton (10 February 1894-29 December 1986) and, married on 21 April 1920, Lady Dorothy Evelyn Cavendish (28 July 1900-21 May 1966), daughter of Victor Christian William Cavendish, 9th Duke of Devonshire (31 May 1868–06 May 1938) and Lady Evelyn FitzMaurice (27 August 1870–02 April 1960), daughter of Henry Charles Keith Petty-FitzMaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne (04 January 1845–03 June 1927).

Maurice Victor Macmillan was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford. He served with the Sussex Yeomanry in Europe in World War II. Like his father, he was Chairman of Macmillan Publishers, as well as a director of two news agencies. Macmillan contested Seaham at the 1945 election, Lincoln in 1951 and Wakefield at a 1954 by-election. He served on Kensington Borough Council 1949–53. He was elected MP for Halifax at the 1955 election but lost this seat in 1964. He was then elected for Farnham at a 1966 by-election. This latter seat became South West Surrey at the 1983 general election. He served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury 1970–72, Secretary of State for Employment 1972–73 and Paymaster General 1973–74 under Edward Heath. Maurice Victor Macmillan's second child and son predeceased in 1965: the Hon. Joshua Edward Andrew Macmillan born 07 January 1945 at the London Welbeck Hospital, London, England. (1) Joshua was prepared at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. (2) In March 1963 Joshua (accompanied on the trip by his mother, Mrs. Maurice Victor Macmillan) traveled to Mexico to study Spanish at the University of Mexico. (3) Joshua later studied, and was a popular figure, at Oxford University. (4) He was a second year student at Oxford's Balliol College (studying politics, philosophy and economics) (4) and was considered one of it's most brilliant students at the time of his death in 1965. (5) On 23 April 1965, Joshua and his fiancée, Kara Yatsevitch (Katharine Howe Yatsevitch, 1947-1970; FAG # 132831813), returned to England from a vacation in Madrid, Spain, where Kara's father was on diplomatic station. (6) Two days later, after tea on Sunday 25 April, Joshua retired to his rooms at Balliol College, Oxford University (7) and was later found dead by a fellow student. (4, 6, 7). Joshua Edward Andrew Macmillan died (age 20) on 25 April 1965 at Balliol College, Oxford University, of respiratory obstruction, and was found dead on arrival at Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. Maurice Victor Macmillan's fourth child and only daughter died in 1987: the Hon. Rachel Mary Georgina Macmillan (born 13 January 1955 in London, England. (1) Rachel Mary G. Macmillan married Corbett 2nd quarter 1981 in Haywards Heath, Sussex, England (2), the son of H.M. Corbett of Sydney, Australia (3); divorced 1986 (3); no issue. (3) Rachel Mary G. Corbett died 2nd quarter 1987 in district of Westminster (Volume 15, Page 1732), county of London, England. (4)
