Dorothy M. Simon Pieper was born on July 2, 1913 in Camp Springs, Campbell County, Kentucky, the last and eighth-born child of Henry George Simon and Apollonia Hoffmann Simon. Dorothy married Lee F. Pieper on November 26, 1942 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, and they had seven children. The couple lived most of their married life in Boone County, Kentucky.

Dorothy died at age 83 on May 3, 1997 in Florence, Boone County. She is interred near her husband in the mausoleum in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kenton County, Kentucky. Her heritage was German.
