A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 2PM at Spry Funeral Home in Athens, with Dr. Edwin Jenkins and Rev. Joe Teal officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00Pm preceding the service. Burial will be Athens City Cemetery.
Rebecca was a graduate of Clements High School and Athens State College. She received a Master’s Degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. She was an elementary school teacher in Limestone County for thirty-one years, retiring from Ardmore Elementary School. She had no children of her own, but considered her students to be “her children” and loved the teaching profession. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Athens, where she active in the Senior Choir and Women on Mission. She was also a member of Retired Teachers of Limestone County and the Homemakers Club.
Rebecca was preceded in death by husband, Clarence Leopard, her parents, three brothers, Andrew Davenport, Alvis Davenport and Lawrence Davenport; five sisters, Vivian Hodson, Vona Terry, Leona Tucker, Lila Spain and Martha Glaze. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Pallbearers will be Anthony Blackwood, Larry Davenport, Doug Humphrey, Kenny Spain, Ricky Terry and Tim Tucker.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Athens Rehabilitation and Senior Care for their love and care. We would also like to thank Southern Care and Hospice of North Alabama for the attention given to her and the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials gifts be made to First Baptist Church, Athens, Alabama.
