Scientist. He was a mathematician, logician, and inventor of the logic diagrams that bear his name. A Fellow of the Royal Society, and President of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, he was the author of "The Logic of Chance" (1866); "Symbolic Logic" (1881) and "The Principles of Empiracle Logic" (1889).
