Anna Teresa McKenna, youngest daughter of William and Margaret McKenna, was born near Anthon, Ia., Dec. 4, 1887, and was 54 years, 9 months and 9 days old when she passed away. She lived in the vicinity of Anthon her entire life until five years ago, when she moved to California.
On Oct. 14, 1908, she was united in marriage to Edward R. McDermott at St. Joseph's church in Anthon. To this union eight children were born. One son, William, died in infancy. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward R. McDermott; two sons, Leonard P. of Maywood and Francis Harold of Huntington Park, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Loretta Beeson of Bell, Calif., Mrs. Mary Smith of Compton, Calif., Mrs. Lucille Muehl of Los Angeles, Mrs. Leona Busby of Maywood, and Irene at home; seven brothers, Jim, George, Tom and Clem of Oto, John of Denver, Colo., and Leo and Charley of Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bays of Sioux City and Mrs. Margaret McDermott of Anthon, and 12 grandchildren. Four brothers preceded her in death.
Rosary was recited Wednesday evening, Sept. 16, at the J. F. Marcaux mortuary in South Gate, and requiem high mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima church in Maywood at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, by Rev. Father Ryan, assisted by Father Hunt, Father Conboy and Father Grew. Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Maywood. Pallbearers were Lyle Hildebrand, Charles Nemichk, William Fay, Braya Mullicane, John Albin and H. L. Clinghan.
Mrs. McDermott was a kind, loving and understanding wife and mother and will be missed greatly by a host of friends.
The Anthon and Oto communities join in extending sympathy to the survivors in their great sorrow.
