Elsie Marie O'Dell, 86, of Marietta, OH (formerly of Hazelton, WV) departed this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Elsie was born July 15, 1928 in Terra Alta, WV, a daughter of the late Roy and Audra (Duckworth) Hewitt. Elsie was a proud veteran of the United States Navy from 1958-1988 where she served as a corpsman in the Naval Medical Service. Elsie achieved the rank of master chief when she was discharged from Navy service. In 1984, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from St. Joseph College in Maine and went on to obtain her Masters of Science and her PhD from Columbia Pacific University in Petaloma, CA. She was a longtime member of the Hazelton Church of the Brethren in Hazelton, WV and attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Marietta, OH. She was an avid quilter, gardener, and a huge animal lover.
She is survived by many nieces & nephews; great nieces & nephews; great great nieces & nephews; and great great great nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. O'Dell on Sept 21, 2003; sister, Jessie Britton and brother, Ercil Hewitt.
Graveside services will be 2pm, Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the Mount Harmony Masonic Cemetery, Pennsboro, WV where full military honors will be conducted by Harris-Ritchie Post #3554.
