News article about a funeral for the members of the O'Hara clan. Excerpts:
Within the memory of the oldest citizen, there has never been such a funeral as that which took place Friday at noon, when the band of Irish horse traders, many of whom live in Atlanta, buried six of their dead....
There had been no tragedy. A majority of those who were laid to rest at Oakland and West View cemeteries had died months ago. All save one had died of natural causes. The single exception was that of Jim O'Hara, who met death in a railroad accident in Savannah last December.
...Who are the O'Haras?.... They are, for the most part, pure-blooded Irish, many of them being natives of the old sod who are descended from ancestors who engaged in horse trading hundreds of years ago. One and all are Roman Catholics. ... Many are wealthy and at least two are rated as millionaires. They live in all sections of the country.
...Thomas Carroll, who lives on Bellwood avenue, is one of the leaders of the band, and it was largely trhough his advice that Atlanta was selected as the exclusive burying place of its members.
The "O'Haras" bury their dead but once each year. No matter how far-flung they may be when the dread summons comes, their bodies are sent to this city and remain here until April, when the funerals are held on the same day.
...The services at the Church of the Immaculate Conception were held at 12 o'clock and were impressive. Fully twenty minutes were devoted to the service over each of the six departed. Father Kennedy preached the burial sermons.
Following the church services, the cortege proceeded slowly to Oakland cemetery, which for many years was the burying place of the "O'Haras." Here the bodies of Mike Mack and Bridget Sherlock, infants, were solemnly interred in the order named.... the procession moved through the gates on its way to West View, where recently new lots were purchased on Laurel Hill....Here the bodies of Tom Carroll, Sr., the infant child of Thomas Mack, Jr., Pat O'Neal and Jim O'Hara, who was killed in savannah, were severally laid to rest....
