Mrs. R.F. Broadway, 60, wife of an Anderson County oilman, was killed Tuesday, apparently the victim of a freak automobile accident.
Her body was found doubled up underneath her automobile on a rural road near the Blackfoot community 20 miles north-west of Palestine. When found, the motor was still running.
Deputy Sheriff Clyde Rhodes expressed belief that she had gotten out of the car to adjust the carburetor . The automobile, parked on a slope, began rolling and Mrs. Broadway probably attempted to hold it back.
The deep Blackfoot oil field was brought in on the Broadway farm almost three years ago by the firm of Sanders and Murchison of Athens.
Funeral services will be held sometime Thursday in Houston. The Hassell & Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which were pending.
Survivors include: her husband; one daughter, Mrs. W.S. Thompson of Houston; two brothers, Will Williams of Slaton and Joe Williams of Palestine; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Jenkins and Mrs. N.W. Wingate, both of Palestine; one half-sister, Mrs. C.T. Harper of Palestine; and two grandchildren.
