Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1951 to 1954 and 1956 to 1960), he played as an offensive end and flanker in the National, Canadian and American Football Leagues with the San Francisco 49ers, British Columbia Lions and Denver Broncos. Born William Dean Jessup, he attended Long Beach Polytechnic in California and played collegiate football at the University of Southern California. Selected by San Francisco during the 11th round of the 1951 NFL Draft, he totaled 77 career regular season games. His career was interrupted while he served with the United States Navy during the 1953 season. Jessup experienced his most success while with British Columbia of the CFL in 1959. During that year, he achieved all-star status, and recorded a touchdown catch which preserved British Columbia's first-ever playoff appearance. In 1960, he earned the distinction of being on the Denver Broncos' inaugural roster in the newly-formed American Football League.
