First Elected Mayor of Denver. Beginning in 1861, he was actually the second Mayor of the City of Denver, but the first elected Mayor of Denver in the recently formed Colorado Territory. Mayor Cook served for two successful terms, in which Denver’s population slowly increased. A popular banker and businessman of the time, he would later go on to found the First National Bank of Denver.
