Note: Joseph and his family lived in the area of Pearlman for a good part of their lives. Doc Joe was listed as a Doctor 'Under the Indian Plan' according to an affidavit for Civil War service to the residens of Hart, Grayson and Hardin counties. According to tradition, Joseph was a herb doctor and treated Civil War soldiers with his remedies. Joseph and his family lived primarily in the area of the Nolyn River in both Hart and Grayson counties.
