---Anita Louise (DeWert) Eldred of Homer, passed away on Saturday January 10, 2015 in the comfort of her home with her beloved family with her, providing her care filled with love.
---Anita was born May 26, 1937 in Monroeville, Indiana to Cecil and Carol (Dager) DeWert. She moved to Homer as a child with her family and attended Homer schools.
---She met Gary Eldred in high school (whom she initially wasn't too impressed with, noting that she thought his arms were too long for his body!) . She got over those arms, they dated and fell in love! They were married on September 6, 1955. The couple have enjoyed a mutually loving, frutiful and respectful relationship these many years. They raised their family in Homer.
---Family always came first with Anita (and Gary). When Gary worked in Algonquin, Illinois for a time, Anita would pack the children up and travel there where they would camp along the Fox River for the summer together. Gary would often return to their campsite after work and find a string of catfish, reflecting Anita's enjoyment of fishing. They became the family's dinner that night (after Gary cleaned them of course!) She and Gary deer hunted together. They have enjoyed the time they have had with their growing family, of course especially with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
---Anita worked for Folk Oil beginning in the early 1980's. She managed their P/S Food Marts in Tekonsha, Homer, Albion and Concord until she was forced to retire due to ill health in 1998. Prior to that she managed and bartended at Fred's, Bernie's and the Homer Grist Mill.
---She enjoyed crocheting, doing jigsaw puzzles, trap shooting and bowling. She loved to watch the birds in the winter time at their bird feeders in their yard. She loved her dogs, her four legged friends! She used to breed boxers. Her family remembers one particularly colorful phrase used in regards to her dogs over the years at special times!
---Surviving are her beloved husband Gary, their children and spouses Gary and Debra Eldred Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Sheri and Keith Zienert of Marshall and Michael and Marsha Eldred of Homer; their grandchildren Stacy (Erik) Lawson, Joshua (Tracy) McCullough and Matthew (Jenah Vanderpool) McCullough, Alyssa and Ryan Eldred, Aaron (Amanda) Zienert, and Addie (Dean) Mabus; great-grandchildren Preston and Keagan Lawson, Isaiah Sullivan, Jeffery "Deuce" and Cooper McCullough, Kaden Zienert, Hunter Mabus, Ayla and Andon Zienert; 3 sisters Roberta Gerardot of Indiana, Mary (Don) Royston of Florida, and Karen Sue (Albert) Lees of Florida; her brothers Wayne DeWert of Georgia and William DeWert of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
---Anita was preceded in death by her parents, a son Paul Eldred, sisters Helen, Gloria and Joyce, and a brother Edward.
---Friends may call at the Craig K. Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Homer Chapel at 303 S. Hillsdale Street on Monday 5PM-8PM.
---Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, January 13, at 1:30PM with Pastor Bill Cole of Maple Grove Bible Church officiating.
---Cremation will follow services and committal services for the family will be at West Clarendon Cemetery.
---A fellowship will immediately follow services at the Homer Chapel's Reception Hall.
