Actress, Singer. She will be best remembered for pairing with her husband Peter Lind Hayes, to form a popular entertainment act in television and on the nightclub circuit. She earned first place at the Miss New Orleans Beauty Pageant during her teens and followed this accomplishment with vocal and dancing performances in her native city. She secured a contract with 20th Century Fox and marked her motion picture debut with an uncredited part in the picture "Josette" (1938). She experienced her first role of substance in the Tyrone Power, Sonja Henie film "Second Fiddle" (1939). In 1940, she met and married Peter Lind Hayes (she remained with him until his death in 1998) and became part of his act while still appearing in a string of films including "Star Dust" (1940), 'Hard Guy" (1941) and "The Yanks are Coming" (1942). Additionally, she appeared in the Broadway plays "Count Me In" (1942) and "Around the World (1946, which was directed by Orson Welles). She co-starred in a popular radio program with Peter and in 1950, they starred in their own TV series. In 1953, the co-starred with her husband in the film "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T." The couple had the distinction of introducing the United States to the Chevrolet commercial jingle "See the USA in your Chevrolet." They starred in the television program "Peter Loves Mary" (1960 to 1961).
